The Lodge at Snowy Mountain Inn was originally built as a home. Ron Craven was an electrical contractor from Phoenix and had come to the Greer area often to hunt and fish. He purchased 68 acres of land in the late 1950s and began building a new summer home. He worked weekends and holidays and completed the six bedroom, 3 1/2 bath home in 1966. Shortly after completing the home, Mr. Craven put the home up for sale. In the early 1970s the house was converted to an Inn and operated as such off and on for the next 20+ years. For some time, it operated as the Elk Trail Lodge and later as the Bear Pond Inn. Ron and Mary Craven (pictured at the right) originally built the Lodge at Snowy Mountain Inn as a private home. Ron was an electrical contractor in Phoenix and he and Mary had visited the Greer area for many years prior to their purchase of the 68 acres of land that surrounded the present Snowy Mountain Inn property. Ron commuted from Phoenix to Greer nearly every weekend over a ten-year period that began in the 1950’s until the construction of the original lodge was completed in 1966. The Cravens named their vacation home “Craven’s Haven” and their original sign remains on display in the Lodge today. The Cravens were compelled to sell the Lodge in the late 1960’s and it was converted to an Inn in the early 1970’s. The business has been operated more or less continuously since that time as the Elk Trail Lodge, Bear Pond Inn and finally, Snowy Mountain Inn. The first three cabins were added to the facility in the 1980’s and two additional duplex cabins were added in the 1990’s. |

Pat and Dick Bruneau purchased snowy Mountain Inn in November of 2000 and moved to Greer from the San Jose, California. Since that time, Snowy Mountain Inn has transitioned into a true kid-friendly four-season resort. The Scoreboard Restaurant and Sports Bar was opened in April of 2001, which also included major renovations to the Lodge. Spas have been added to most of the cabins, a playground area has been added and a playroom has been created inside the Lodge. Satellite TVR/VCRs have been added to all of the cabins and a selection of games, puzzles and videotapes are now provided for the convenience of guests at no charge. Outdoor activities abound at Snowy Mountain and guests have open access to the pond that is stocked with trout and fishing gear for use on our trout pond, sporting equipment for use on the grounds, including horseshoes, volleyball and softball equipment. We’ve also added a Gazebo on the island in the center of the pond, which is used as a gathering spot for group activities and as a focal point for outdoor weddings. We also have the capability to provide both food and lodging for family reunions, weddings and corporate meetings.
